To empower the stakeholders of Tamil education so as to promote the cause of Tamil education in Malaysia by uniting the Tamil school committees and promoting and solidifying the relationship among the Tamil schools in Malaysia.
The Tamil Foundation is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization committed to helping communities through research, development and publication focused on Tamil education. We undertake activities that result in practical programmes that enrich students of Tamil education.
The Foundation traces its beginnings to July 14, 1990 when a group professionals struck a collaborative arrangement to help Tamil schools, primarily, in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. And, 13 years later, on February 14, 2003, the Foundation was formally registered.
We empower communities through Tamil education and Tamil education centred networking by developing practical programmes grounded on rigorous research and analysis, and by disseminating the gathered knowledge.
We aim to do this by being the leading independent Tamil educational research and development body in Malaysia, closely linked with Parent-Teacher Associations, Headmasters Council and School Boards nationwide, with a diversified portfolio of research, information and development activities that spans all sectors of Tamil education and to the extent needed, Tamil language and Tamil culture.
On April 7, 2012, a National Forum on Tamil Schools was convened where it was unanimously agreed that the three resolutions of Tamil Foundation agreed upon in Cameron Highlands should be adopted and move towards achieving these aims:
- To accept Tamil language as a promoted language.
- To reaffirm and strengthen Tamil schools in the National Education System.
- To increase community involvement and to take ownership of Tamil schools through civil societies and community institutions at all levels.
Further, these aims should ensure the Tamil School children achieves 80% pass rate and the literacy rate attains 100% by 2017
